Dr. Christian Moher, MD
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Moher was awarded 2018 Physician of the Year by the National Council of Behavioral Health due to his work in Integrated Medicine, specifically his efforts to reduce his patient population’s opiod usage. He is the first Family Physician recipient of the award, traditionally given to behavioral health staff. Dr. Moher’s passion for integrated care shows through his approach to treatment, incorporating the whole-person framework into clinical and treatment decisions. He graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed internship and residency in Family Medicine at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR.
Peter Ziegler, MD
Primary Care Physician
Dr. Ziegler is a Board-Certified Family Physician with over 25 years of experience in primary care. He earned his Medical Doctorate degree at Tufts University and completed a residency in Family Medicine at Brown University. As a Primary Care Physician, Dr. Ziegler provides a full range of routine services, treatments, and referrals as needed for all chronic medical conditions. He worked for 18 years with the Indian Health Service, then at Assurance Health and Wellness, and most recently at Community Partners, Inc. integrating primary care with behavioral health services. Dr. Ziegler believes in the importance of connection and communication with his patients to best assist with their healthcare needs.
Emily Ichikawa, MSN
Family Nurse Practitioner
Emily graduated from the UCLA School of Nursing, and after several years of inpatient and outpatient experience as a registered nurse, she returned to school at Simmons University and received a Master’s of Science in Nursing. Her prior experience in multiple mental health care settings, paired with her Family Nurse Practitioner training, allows her to assist patients with physical needs, as well as provide resources for mental health care needs.
Juniper Dery-Chaffin, PA-C
Juniper works as a Family Medicine Physician Assistant providing primary care services, including, but not limited to general family medicine, office-procedures, annual wellness exams, preventative medicine, chronic disease management, pain management, and well-woman exams. In addition to outpatient care, Juniper is responsible for primary care rounding through Escalera Health at Cornerstone psychiatric hospital in Tucson, AZ and practices as a Psychiatric Physician Assistant to a diverse population of seriously mentally ill patients. Steven Herron, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Herron graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his Adult Psychiatry Residency at the University of Arizona. He has extensive experience in treating both in-person and via telemedicine technology across a variety of clinical environments, including correctional institutions, public mental health clinics, university inpatient and outpatient services, and a student health clinic. Steve employs evidenced-based treatments in psychopharmacology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychotherapy to care for patients within the integrated framework. Dr. Herron is also an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona.
Jean Folarin, MSN, FNP-C, PMHNP
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Jean’s has diversified experience across the medical field. She has served as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) for U.S. Army members and at outpatient clinics treating routine, preventative, and chronic conditions, she and worked in primary care, urgent care, hospice organizations, and geriatric settings. Jean’s academic accolades include AS in Nursing (Shelby State Community College), BS in Nursing (Murray State University), MS in Gerontological Nursing (University of Evansville), Post-Master’s Certification in FNP (Hardin-Simmons University), and Post-Masters Psychiatric Mental Health NP (University of Tennessee). Jean brings her wide array of experience and knowledge to serve Escalera patients with the highest quality of whole-person psychiatric care.
Theresa Keane, PhD, PMHNP
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Theresa specializes in helping individuals struggling with co-occurring substance use and psychiatric symptoms. She is American Nurse Credentialing Center Board-certified and completed her doctoral studies at Long Island University. Theresa has experience in a wide array of service delivery settings/modalities, including telemedicine technology, out-patient and inpatient settings, partial hospital programs, community-based organizations, and substance use treatment centers. Through evidence-based treatments in psychopharmacology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychotherapy, Theresa approaches patient-care with an integrated framework, whole-person approach.
Holly Gutierrez, LMSW, BHP
Holly, a University of Arizona graduate WHAT DEGREE, provides an array of experience in clinical inpatient and outpatient settings, counseling, and care coordination. She is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) certified, an evidence-based specialty that focuses on traumatic events, thoughts, images, and bodily sensations, inducing stimulation in the form of repeated eye movements to work through associated symptoms of PTSD. Additionally, Holly understands the challenges faced by those struggling with co-occurring disorders and specializes in strategies that help meet the person where they are, valuing the person-centered and integrated care model to provide the best care.
LUPITA BURRUEL, LAC
Lupita, bilingual in Spanish and English, strives to help clients feel comfortable by providing a compassionate, person-centered approach. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona and Master’s degree in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. Lupita has experience working with refugees, families, and people of all ages addressing acculturation, anxiety, co-morbidity, crisis intervention, depression, grief and loss, self-esteem issues, and trauma from inpatient and outpatient perspectives. Additionally, Lupita is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based specialty that focuses on traumatic events, thoughts, images, and bodily sensations, inducing stimulation in the form of repeated eye movements to work through associated symptoms of PTSD.
BRIANA CUESTAS, LAC
Briana utilizes cognitive behavioral strategies and person centered approaches to help meet client needs and align with the integrative care model. She received her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University and a Masters degree in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University. Briana brings experience from both inpatient and outpatient settings working with co-occurring disorders and crisis intervention, she is trauma-informed care certified, and motivational interviewing. She practices Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based specialty that focuses on traumatic events, thoughts, images, and bodily sensations, inducing stimulation in the form of repeated eye movements t to treat PTSD and other disorders. Briana has worked in settings as a victims advocate, with First Responders, and has a passion for working with the Tucson community.
Steven Guthrie, LMSW
Steve is a Licensed Master Social Worker with over fifteen years of executive level leadership experience in healthcare organizations across southern Arizona. He received both his Master’s of Social Work and Juris Doctoral degrees from Arizona State University. Steve is a veteran of the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, and Army National Guard. He utilizes cognitive behavioral strategies informed by an integrated care approach to help meet client needs.
Jo-Ann Marcus, LCSW
Jo-Ann’s therapy style is collaborative, pragmatic, and compassionate. She has extensive experience helping clients who are struggling with loss and grief, life transitions, divorce, stepfamilies and parenting, domestic violence, workplace issues, and depression. Jo-Ann helps people find better ways of dealing with stress and anxiety, as well as internal conflict and strained relationships. Jo-Ann is a graduate of the University of Chicago and the University of New England.
Elissa Munoz Tucker, LAC
Elissa has experience working in a range of settings with multiple diagnoses and patient populations. Elissa earned a bachelor’s degree in special education and a master’s degree in counseling with an emphasis in rehabilitation and mental health from the University of Arizona. She holds a Certification in Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) and is a Licensed Counselor.
Lily Wilhelm, LAC
Lily approaches therapy with compassion, empathy, and solution-oriented counseling. She is dedicated to providing effective behavioral health interventions for adults, children, and adolescents experiencing mental health concerns. She has held within community mental health agencies, traditional outpatient settings, and on college campuses. Lily has been recognized for implementing beneficial changes in organizational settings leading to increased strategic thinking, higher levels of efficiency, and stronger interpersonal relationships. She has a specialized interest and focus in the treatment of body image/self esteem, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, and issues related to family of origin. SCHOOL
Arlene Wolfolk, LAC
Arlene’s experience is in individual counseling, family counseling, treatment planning, individualized assessments, and trauma informed crisis management working with both children and adults. She approaches therapy with professionalism, warmth, empathy, acceptance, and humor. Robin Glicksman, DBH, LMSW
Chief Clinical Officer
Robin is a Licensed Social Worker and a Doctor of Behavioral Health, with a specialty in Integrated Healthcare. She frequently speaks at Integrated Conferences regarding management perspective and therapy approaches for chronic conditions in the Integrated Healthcare field. Robin brings a valuable combination of experience as a licensed clinician completing crisis evaluations, assessments, and therapy, coupled with her managerial leadership background in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Katrina Rodriguez is the manager overseeing primary care, ancillary services, front desk operations, and the medical assistant team. As a Certified Medical Assistant herself, Katrina understands the intricacies of medical policies and procedures. She has employed this knowledge and experience to develop multiple programs at Escalera and continues to monitor these daily operations. Katrina is the point of contact for customer service and patient care needs.
